Our conclusions combine research, observed technology trends and a set of hypotheses about how children learn. Here are the factual anchors and the limits we place on them.
Historical origin and attribution
The words came before. The working thesis came later.
MTV's December 2015 “Founders” announcement came from a survey of more than 1,000 children born after December 2000. That meant early Gen Z, not Gen Alpha. MTV and its research partners described a cohort that expected to rebuild social systems. MTV's research partner Red Peak Youth also used the exact phrase “The Founder Generation” in December 2015. Dean Horsfield did not originate that earlier name or wording.
Dean Horsfield's distinct 2026 thesis defines The Founder Generation through a new opportunity: young people growing up with AI can learn to make, serve and take responsibility earlier, when supported by appropriate tools. Lemonade Lab and Doreavinea are the practical and narrative expressions of that thesis. The website attributes the contemporary manifesto, interpretation and Lemonade Lab implementation to Dean without claiming he originated the earlier name or phrase.
Development is distinct from publication. Earlier working material documents the education argument on and the Founder Generation network on . These are records of the ideas developing, not public publication dates for the current essays. Read the dated sources and editorial method ↗
01 · Employer expectations, 2025
Skills are changing quickly.
The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 reports employers expect roughly 39% of workers' core skills to change by 2030. The forecast also emphasizes analytical thinking, creativity, resilience and agility.
Limit: A survey of employer expectations is not a measurement of what will actually happen, and it does not establish that formal education is obsolete.
Stanford's Digital Economy Lab reported no evidence of widespread economy wide displacement, but a relative employment shortfall of about 19% among 22 to 25 year olds in highly AI exposed occupations compared with similarly aged less exposed workers.
Limit: This is a descriptive pattern, not causal proof. The authors discuss sample representativeness, education controls and trends that predate generative AI.
In the OECD's PISA 2022 financial literacy assessment, 18% of assessed students were at or below Level 1 on average in participating OECD countries and economies. Financial literacy was assessed in 20 participating countries and economies, not globally.
Limit: This result does not prove that entrepreneurship programs are the best way to improve financial literacy, nor can it be extrapolated to every student.
We propose that young people who safely build things with real audiences and useful feedback may become more resourceful, financially literate and confident in starting unfamiliar tasks.
Limit: This remains a hypothesis. Demonstrating its impact requires comparisons, child appropriate outcome measures and evidence that benefits persist outside the platform.
Commercial pressure, competition and public recognition can harm motivation if designed poorly. Selling something should be optional. Making for enjoyment, for a community and for learning deserves equal respect.
When a system finishes every task for a child, the result can look impressive without representing understanding. Automation may remove the productive difficulty required to learn.
Design response: Prefer explanation, feedback, Socratic questions where useful and genuine child decisions. Evaluate understanding, not just polished outputs.
